Does Minnesota have more golf courses than Arizona?

While Arizona has earned a reputation as one of the top states for golf, Minnesota has more courses. 

Minnesota had 477 courses as of 2023 compared with Arizona’s 373, according to the National Golf Foundation. Florida’s 1,262 courses are the most in the U.S.

The Gopher State stands out for having the highest percentage of public courses in the country. About 90% of Minnesota’s courses are open to the public. 

Minnesota also boasts high golf participation rates. The Grand Canyon State has more total golfers, 674,200 (based on 2021 figures), than Minnesota’s 577,700 (based on 2023 figures), but a smaller population gives the latter an edge in golfers per capita.
