Does Fort Worth ISD require parental consent for students to access its mental health services?
Parental consent is necessary for Fort Worth ISD to provide mental health services to students.
The district offers a variety of support for students, including counselors and social workers. To ensure that students’ mental health needs are met, Fort Worth ISD has had a system in place since 2002, a district spokesperson previously told the Fort Worth Report.
Parents interested in accessing mental health care for their child through Fort Worth ISD can contact the Family Resource Centers. They partner with the mental health community in Tarrant County to make agency services accessible to families.
A Family Resource staff member will contact the parents first to schedule a consultation, so concerns expressed by the school or caregiver can be addressed. Once parental permission is granted, the student is connected with an agency.
