Does Fort Worth have a low crime rate compared to other large Texas cities?

Fort Worth had fewer violent crimes than more populous Texas cities in 2022, according to the FBI’s National Incident-Based Reporting System.
The Fort Worth Police Department reported 502 violent crimes per 100,000 people to the FBI.
The FBI defines violent crimes as those that involve force or threat of force in four offenses: murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, rape, robbery and aggravated assault.
Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Houston had higher crime rates than Fort Worth.
Only El Paso, which is smaller than Fort Worth, had a lower crime rate.
Here are crime rates that each police department reported to the FBI per 100,000 people as of 2022:
- Houston: 1,141
- San Antonio: 882
- Dallas: 778
- Austin: 540
- Fort Worth: 502
- El Paso: 313
