Does Canada have a higher tax burden than Nevada?
Canada’s tax burden is higher than any U.S. state’s, including Nevada’s.

In 2024, the average Canadian family spent about 42% of its income on taxes, according to the think tank the Fraser Institute.
The state and local tax burden for the middle 20% of Nevadans was 8.6% in 2024, according to the Institute for Taxation and Economic Policy. Combined with a federal tax burden of 15% for the middle 20% of Americans, Nevadans spent an average of 23.6% of their income on taxes.
In 2024, the middle 20% of Americans spent about 26% of their income on taxes.
Nevada has one of the most regressive taxation systems in the nation: Last year, the bottom 20% of earners dedicated approximately 4 times more of their income toward taxes than the top 1% of earners.
