Did the outcome of Nevada's Senate race ensure Democrats will retain control of the US Senate?

By Todd Butterworth
YES

Democratic U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada narrowly won re-election 48.8% to 48.1% over her challenger, Republican Adam Laxalt. This outcome gave Democrats at least 50 seats and control of the U.S. Senate, with Vice-President Kamala Harris as the tiebreaking vote. After the Dec. 6 runoff election in Georgia, Democrats could gain an additional seat.

Cortez Masto's victory came after days of counting thousands of mail-in ballots, mainly in Clark County, Nevada's most populous county, which includes Las Vegas.

As of Nov. 16, 2022, control of the U.S. House of Representatives changed from Democratic to Republican.
