Did every Nevada congressional representative vote to denounce socialism?

By Austin Tannenbaum
YES

All four members of the U.S. House of Representatives representing Nevada voted in favor of a resolution “denouncing the horrors of socialism.”

H.Con.Res.9 passed on Feb. 2 with the support of 219 Republicans and 109 Democrats. Eighty-six Democrats voted against the resolution, while 14 voted "present."

The resolution does not define socialism nor give examples of socialist policies, but its language indicates a general opposition to "collectivistic systems" that redistribute wealth.

Democrats proposed an amendment to clarify that this opposition does not apply to federal programs such as Social Security and Medicare, but Republicans rejected it.

Republicans are using the strategically worded resolution, which includes references to famines and exterminations that occurred under "socialist ideologues," to attack Democrats who voted against it.

Among the general public, 36% of Americans view socialism somewhat or very positively, while 60% view it somewhat or very negatively, according to an August 2022 poll by Pew.
