Did 1 in 5 school choice tax credits in Oklahoma go to high-income households?

yes

According to a report done by the Oklahoma Tax Commission, $19.3 million of the $91.7 million in tax credits issued through the Parental Choice Tax program were awarded to households with an adjusted gross income higher than $250,000. That’s 21% of the total funds.

7,723 families in this category were awarded up to $5,000 in credits. $3.3 million of the total credits was awarded to families with AGIs of $225,001 – $250,000, $15.7 million was awarded to families in the $150,001 – $225,000 bracket, $26.3 million to families in the $75,001 – $150,000 bracket, and $27.1 million was awarded to families with AGIs of $75,000 or less.

The program began in December 2023 and allows households with children in private schools to claim between $5,000 and $7,000 each year, depending on their income bracket.
