Are thousands of Californians moving to Nevada?

By Todd Butterworth
YES

According to Census Bureau estimates, from 2015 through 2019, nearly 250,000 Californians moved to Nevada, more than from any other state. Approximately half that many Nevadans moved to California during the same time frame, resulting in a net gain of more than 123,000 residents for Nevada.

From 2018 through 2020, California experienced a gross domestic outflow of approximately 670,000 residents. For more than 20 years, California has been losing residents to other states. Since 2010, about 7.5 million people left California and moved to other states, while only 5.8 million people moved to California from other parts of the country.

Since 1930, Nevada’s growth rate has outpaced the national rate at each census.
