Hidden resort fees are illegal in Nevada. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) requires all hotels to display upfront the total price of a stay, including mandatory charges such as resort fees.

These fees are added to standard room rates and cover amenities, cleaning and other services. On Jan. 1, 2025, tourism website Las Vegas Jaunts estimated the average resort fee at major Las Vegas hotels was $40.04.

Since May, the FTC has required booking websites to include resort fees in the overall price they advertise for rooms.

In January 2026, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced that it’s now illegal for hotels in the city to place holds on customers’ credit cards without disclosing a hold’s length or amount.

The New York rule could affect Las Vegas hotels because it stipulates that when hotels advertise to New York City-based customers, they must meet the disclosure requirements.
