Are a majority of Fort Worth ISD students below grade level in math?
Fort Worth ISD had 74% of students not meeting grade level on the state standardized test for math in 2023, according to the Texas Education Agency.
A majority of students have not met grade level on the state math test since 2015, when TEA first introduced current standards for the exams. The test is called the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness.
Meets grade level means that students have a higher chance of success in the next grade but may need limited and targeted academic help.
The STAAR test was revised in 2023 for the first time since its introduction in 2011. The state made the exam more rigorous and included open-ended questions and graphing exercises.
Fort Worth ISD used federal pandemic relief funds to purchase a new math curriculum to boost students’ achievement in the subject.
