OTHER BENEFITS

Valuable New Capacity

With Gigafact, newsrooms gain new capacity. Gigafact fellows are not only trained in rigorous sourcing and succinct fact brief writing, but also in AI tools, social media research and engagement techniques. Some fellows who begin as freelancers go on to be hired full-time.

The Network Effect

The Gigafact network of fact brief publishers is growing! In addition to regular best practice sharing and events, newsrooms are also encouraged to republish one another’s fact briefs. These collaborative efforts enhance the impact of fact brief programs.

Cost-Effective

Invited newsrooms may join Gigafact at no cost, and some are eligible for a one-time seed grant. This may change as the network grows and evolves, but at this time, we seek to make becoming a Gigafact publisher low-risk and low-cost.

Fact briefs are relatively inexpensive to publish. According to surveys of newsrooms that relied on freelancer talent, the average total cost of researching, writing, editing and publishing fact briefs was $1,000-2,000 per month.
