Do you have to pay a duty fee if you buy a Nintendo Switch 2 in Mexico and bring it into the U.S.?

U.S. citizens and legal residents are normally exempt from paying duty fees for items purchased in Mexico if their combined value is under $800, according to the Customs and Border Patrol Declaration Form 6059B. Non-residents normally have an exemption of up to $100. Exemptions are per person.

The price for a Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo’s latest handheld gaming console, is listed at $499.99 on its U.S. website. Mexican business magazine Expansión on April 23 reported that Nintendo would price its consoles in Mexico at 13,599 pesos or $694.

All travelers are required to declare purchases or items being brought into the U.S. to CBP, the agency’s website states.

The release date for Nintendo Switch is June 5, 2025, its website states. 

Nintendo pre-orders opened in the U.S. and Canada April 24 after some delays over President Trump’s tariffs.
