Did Texas rank first in job growth in 2024?

Texas added more net jobs than any state in 2024, although other states have higher per capita job growth.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Texas’ workforce grew from 14,034,500 in December 2023 to 14,318,700 in 2024 — a gain of 284,200 jobs.

Energy, financial services and construction were the fastest growing job sectors in 2024, according to the Dallas Federal Reserve.

Idaho topped per capita growth of the civilian labor force at 3,508 jobs per 100,000. Texas averaged 1,985 per 100,000.

Texas has continued adding jobs in 2025. In February 2025, Texas had about 182,000 more jobs than in February 2024.

The average hourly earnings in Texas in February 2025 were $34.55 — just below the national average of $34.64.

BLS reports Texas’ unemployment as of March 2025 sits at the national average of 4.1%.
