Are English teens vaccinated against COVID-19 three times more likely to die than unvaccinated English teens?

By Ed Payne
NO

There are a number of issues with the claim, made by conspiracy-theory site The Daily Expose, that English teens vaccinated against COVID-19 are three times more likely to die than their unvaccinated counterparts.

The United Kingdom's Office for National Statistics (ONS) says the allegation lacks context and doesn't take into account who was getting vaccinated early on:

"Clinically vulnerable young people were vaccinated much earlier than those with no comorbidities. Clinically vulnerable children and young people have higher mortality rates than those with no comorbidities, and this explains why vaccinated teenagers have higher rates of death than those who remained unvaccinated."

Relatedly, the office says there's "no evidence in the ONS mortality data to suggest a link with the COVID-19 vaccines." A common mistake made by vaccine conspiracy theorists is jumping from correlation to causation. Just because a death occurred after an individual was vaccinated does not mean the vaccine caused the death.

The Daily Expose received the lowest possible credibility rating from Media Bias Fact Check.
