Did security cameras in the Washoe County, Nevada, ballot counting area turn off for an extended period in the 2020 election?

By Todd Butterworth
NO

Security cameras in the Washoe County Registrar of Voters building remained functional during the overnight outage of the courtesy cameras in the ballot counting room. The registrar posted online a written explanation and security camera footage.

The ballot room cameras, provided as a courtesy to those who wish to monitor ballot counting online, lost their connection with an online server at 11:24 p.m. on Nov. 9, an hour after the ballot counting room was closed and secured for the night. Registrar staff discovered the problem and reconnected the courtesy cameras at 7:53 a.m. on Nov. 10.

The security camera videos and electronic badge reports show no one entered the ballot room or registrar’s office during the outage. The courtesy cameras were functioning when ballot counting resumed on Nov. 10.
