Are Nevada Latinos moving away from the Democratic Party?

By Todd Butterworth
YES

Catalist reports that, among Nevadans voting in the 2020 election, 16% were Latino, one of the highest percentages in a nation where 10% of all 2020 voters were Latino.

Nevada Latinos' historic support for Democrats remains high — 60% in 2020. However, this decreased from 70% in 2012 and 67% in 2016. Voter registration data is also shifting and shows the number of Latino Democrats in Nevada grew by 52% between 2018 and 2020. However, during the same period, the number of Republican and independent Latinos grew by 72% and 92%, respectively.

Latinos’ policy priorities are changing as well. Immigration was the top issue for 53% of Nevada Latinos in 2016, but only 21% in 2020. By contrast, the economy was most important for 33% in 2016, but 51% in 2020.
