Are migrant children who crossed the US-Mexico border being given welcome kits containing copies of a book by Vice President Kamala Harris?
Migrant children were not given welcome kits containing a book by Vice President Kamala Harris. One copy of her book, “Superheroes Are Everywhere,” was donated during a city-run drive in Long Beach, California, to collect toys and books for migrant children.
The New York Post inaccurately reported that migrant children were being given copies of the book, and later issued a correction saying only one copy was seen at a Long Beach facility. By then, the original report had been picked up by other outlets and shared widely on social media.
Kevin Lee, chief public affairs officer for the City of Long Beach, told AP that Harris’ book was “one of thousands” donated by local community members.
Sabrina Singh, the vice president’s deputy press secretary, said her office had nothing to do with the book winding up at the facility.
